Arani
After exploring her options for an affordable education, Arani made a life-changing decision. She enrolled at Malcolm X College where she soon joined the Surgical Technology program.
Bridgette Jones began her academic journey in Tucson, Arizona, pursuing a nursing degree at her local community college. After a conversation with her partner about opening a crematorium, Bridgette realized that pursuing a career path in mortuary science would be her next step. That decision led her to transfer to Malcolm X College (MXC), one of the City Colleges of Chicago.
Since joining Malcolm X College, Bridgette has made incredible strides. She earned her Associate in General Studies in spring 2025 and transitioned into the Associate in Applied Science in Mortuary Science program in the fall. As an MCX and United Center Joint Venture scholar, she has already earned a Crematory Operator Certificate and continues to take additional classes to prepare for the Mortuary Science National Board exam with plans to begin her apprenticeship soon after.
Bridgette’s long-term dream is to open her own crematory business with her partner. She also hopes to give back to City Colleges students by creating opportunities for them to help gain hands-on experience. Her goal is to ensure that the next generation of students has the resources they need to perfect their trade and thrive in their chosen fields.
“People here want you to succeed.” Arani shared, “If that’s your goal and that’s what you want you can definitely reach it here.”
